Students Score Well on National Exam

Waldron Mercy Academy students scored well on National Spanish Exam.

Congratulations to 20 Spanish students from Waldron Mercy Academy who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations.

WMA students in seventh and eighth grade earned a total of two gold, eight silver and three bronze medals along with seven honorable mentions.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 146,000 students participating in 2019.”

Students from Waldron Mercy Academy have a long history of high achievement on these exams. Carolina Kakos teaches Spanish to WMA students in grade six through eight while Ashley Kontostergios instructs students in grades two through five.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
