2nd Grade Celebrates our School Theme: "Wrapping Our World in Mercy — Embracing Our Global Family"

Each year our school selects a theme that aligns with the theme chosen by the Sisters of Mercy, which in turn aligns with one of their Critical Concerns. This year, to coordinate with the concern of "Immigration", our school year theme is: "Wrapping Our World in Mercy — Embracing Our Global Family"

Recently, our 2nd grade classrooms worked with students from Merion Mercy Academy to deepen their understanding of our theme and figure out ways to be kinder and more welcoming in our day to day lives.

Students created paper suitcases, drawing and writing five things that would make them feel happy and at home if they traveled somewhere new, and then made a tally chart of items they had in common.

They also created a Gifts of the Holy Spirit tree, adding leaves with actions, words or pictures that show welcoming to others based on the theme for each branch - Wisdom, Understanding and Right Judgement.

Afterwards, they gathered together with their MMA leaders and reflected on how the Holy Spirit helps us live as one global family through these gifts. Just as the leaves connect to one tree, our words and actions of mercy connect us to one another as a global family!
