Waldon Mercy Academy partners with Sr. Francis Inn in Kensington to offer H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat) Lunches onces a month. Students pack lunches for patrons of St. Francis Inn which our then delivered by our parents. Staffed by vowed and lay Franciscans and volunteers, St. Francis Inn serves the poor and homeless by addressing both their immediate needs while also striving to empower them as members of the local community.
Every Wednesday, students are encouraged to bring in a brown bag lunch, which should inlcude non-perishable items: a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a piece of fruit, and a cookie (No beverages, please). Students will be provided ahead of time with a brown paper lunch bag to bring home and are encouraged to decorate the bag and write a short note.
Students can drop off the bagged lunch the following morning at Community Gathering. Afterwards, a parent(s) will deliver these lunches to the St. Francis Inn in Kensington. Then from 10-11 that morning, the Inn will provide these lunches in their courtyard.
