
Philip A. Hart, Class of 1926
After graduating from Waldron School for Boys in 1926, Philip Hart attended West Catholic High School before studying at Georgetown University in 1934 and the University of Michigan School of Law in 1937. He was elected Democratic United States Senator in Michigan in 1958, and served from 1959 until his death in 1976. The Senate paid tribute to Philip Hart by naming an office building, under construction, in his honor in 1976. The Hart Senate Office Building opened in 1982, becoming the only congressional office building named after a living member.

Edgar Griffiths, Class of 1935
After his graduation from Waldron, Edgar Griffiths attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and graduated from St. Joseph’s University. After serving in World War II, he joined RCA (Radio Corporation of America) in 1948. In 1976 he became president and chief executive officer, and in 1980 was elected chairman. After he left RCA, he consulted at General Electric. Griffiths passed away in May 2009 and bequeathed $1.85 million to Waldron Mercy Academy.

Bill Kuharich, Class of 1967
Bill Kuharich is the former Vice President of Player Personnel with the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. After attending Waldron Academy he went on to study at the Malvern Preparatory School and at Middlebury College in Vermont. Kuharich worked for the New Orleans Saints from 1986 to 1999 as the team’s Director of Player Personnel, Vice President of Football Operations, Executive Vice President/General Manager and President/General Manager/Chief Operating Officer. Kuharich is widely esteemed as one the NFL’s best evaluators of talent.

Brian Tierney, Class of 1971
Brian Tierney attended Waldron Mercy Academy and then The Episcopal Academy. He graduated from The University of Pennsylvania in 1979, majoring in political science, and later earned a law degree of Widener University. Tierney has worked for the Ronald Reagan administration and George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential election campaign. Tierney created Tierney Communications, one of the largest and most successful public relations and advertising firms in Philadelphia. He served as CEO and publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer until the fall of 2010.

M. Night Shyamalan, Class of 1984
M. Night Shyamalan was born in Pondicherry, India, before his family moved into the Philadelphia area. After graduating from Waldron, he attended The Episcopal Academy and finally went on to study at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, from which he graduated in 1992. His work as a filmmaker and screenwriter is world-renowned for such films as “Signs,” “The Happening,” “Unbreakable” and the Academy Award-nominated “The Sixth Sense.”

Rob McElhenney, Class of 1991
Rob McElhenney, is credited as lead actor, creator, developer and executive producer of the show, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. After graduating from Waldron Mercy, McElhenney attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School. He has also appeared in “The Devil’s Own,” “A Civil Action,” “Wonder Boys” and “13 Conversations about One Thing.”

Regine Nehy, Class of 2002
Regine Nehy has achieved success as an American film and television actress since her days at Waldron Mercy Academy. Before she began acting, Nehy danced with the Rock School for Dance Education. She has appeared in “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Weapons,” “Pride,” “Super Sweet 16: The Movie” and “Boot Camp.” Her movie appearances include “Lakeview Terrace” and “Death at a Funeral.”
