Rev. Joseph P. McFadden, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia

“Blue Ribbon is an achievement for all involved in Catholic education; came with a great deal of hard work and determination on the part of the whole WMA community, especially students. …

“The Lord calls all of us to be the best we can be; WMA helps you to do that. WMA has been recognized as one of the most outstanding schools in the US by the whole independent body whose work is to identify the most outstanding school in the US. …

Margaret Spellman, former Secretary of Education, calls Catholic schools “National Treasures” … so today WMA is a National Treasure. She says this because they contribute deeply to the building up of our society, to be the just society that was intended by our founding fathers and also encompasses understanding of our inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness which we are endowed by our creator. ...

[It should be a] place where thanksgiving and worship of God is an important part of our lives. Life is a gift and we must be thankful for it; it is an opportunity to worship God because he is the one who called us to life. Worship and giving thanks to God really is the purpose of a Catholic school and that is what we accomplish at WMA. …

WMA is recognized as an outstanding school but we must keep going; we must continue to strive for excellence; cannot achieve excellence unless each day we come in the doors we say we are going to make this day excellent and in doing that, it helps us to retain that title of Blue Ribbon School of Excellence because we take that very seriously.”

Annemarie Frio, Current Parent and President of PTC

"...I know that we parents already understand the treasured secret of this great academic institution experienced every day by our children. I know the strength of Waldron’s academics and that my children are nurtured by the faculty and accepted by their peers. All Waldron parents are welcomed into the community here and we have formed strong bonds with other families that will likely last a lifetime.

As a parent of seventh and fourth graders, I can attest to the academic challenges presented to my children. The expectation of student achievement is evident in the curriculum and technology our children are exposed to on a daily basis. The dedication and commitment of the faculty, administration, and staff is clearly visible and has allowed my husband (Bill, class of 1984) and I to feel so proud of the decision that we made to send our children to Waldron. ...

I am excited that Waldron has been recognized nationally for its academic achievement and has been honored among America’s most successful schools.   The Blue Ribbon award has served to validate only what I already knew as a parent - leadership, teaching, curriculum, student achievement, parental involvement and community support have allowed Waldron to distinguish itself from many other academic institutions.

I am very proud to be here before you today and to be able to boast that my children attend Waldron Mercy Academy, a two-time Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence winner, and the message that I want to relay to the Waldron community is the same message that my husband gave to me 10+ years ago – Waldron is the best place for our children to learn, grow and develop.   I truly believe that our children stand-out and excel because of the influence of this great school."

Stephen Gleason, Chair, Waldron Mercy Academy Board of Trustees

"We are very blessed to have such a wonderful community here at Waldron Mercy, and it is gratifying to celebrate this special recognition for all of your efforts in making Waldron Mercy the incredible school that it is. Thank you to the entire Waldron Mercy community for your past and for your continued support.

So what makes Waldron Mercy Academy a two-time winner of the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award? It is certainly the dedication of our faculty, the richness of our academic programs, the successes of our extracurricular teams, clubs and programs. It is also the success of our graduates, the hard work of our parents, the support of our alumni and friends, and the beautiful campus that we share with the Sisters of Mercy.

But let’s face it; there are many great schools in our area that have most if not all of these things. What makes Waldron Mercy Academy excellent is our middle name….it is Mercy. Mercy is defined as the kind and compassionate treatment of a person under one’s care. To me, that says it all about Waldron Mercy. The Spirit of Mercy is alive on this campus every day: in Community Gathering, in our Mercy Outreach ministries, and in the kindness and caring of our students.

Mercy is not just a word or a slogan or a part of our name. Mercy is what we do. Mercy is why we are here. Mercy is who we are. If we continue to follow our Mission and to live the Spirit of Mercy, we will thrive, we will grow and we will celebrate awards such as this for generations to come.

Thank you again for all that you do for Waldron Mercy Academy and for making this Blue Ribbon Award possible."
