The Johnson Family

Kelvin and Pamela Johnson, Ashley '99, KJ '04 and Julian '12
Our years at Waldron Mercy Academy have been an amazing journey. When our youngest of three children graduates in 2012, my husband Kelvin and I will have spent 21 enriching years of parenthood, partnering with an institution that has a mission statement that complements our values.

During these years, our children Ashley, KJ and Julian have embraced the spirit of Mercy with the wonderful families, in service with going the St. Columba’s Shelter, scholarship with the invigorating academic curriculum, sports and the wonderful music program. Not only have my children experienced great memories, my husband and I, through our service to WMA, have as well. Waldron Mercy has supplied our spiritual growth for our family, which is part of its uniqueness.

Ashley came to Waldron Mercy in kindergarten in 1990. Throughout the years, many of Ashley’s teachers cultivated her love for writing. After graduating from WMA, Ashley attended The Episcopal Academy. She earned her her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Communications from The University of Pennsylvania.Ashley recently earned her master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University in Chicago and. Today she is a news reporter for WPTZ, the NBC affiliate in Burlington, Vermont. Ashley now gives back to WMA by serving on the marketing committee for Waldron Mercy Academy.

KJ (Kelvin Jr.) had a remarkable experience at Waldron Mercy. So many teachers were instrumental in shaping KJ’s academic experience. A talented student-athlete, he played football and basketball. One of his proudest memories was winning the championship game at Gwynedd-Mercy where he scored 51 of 72 points for the team. At the sports banquet he was awarded with a basketball signed by the coaches with that memory. He ran track and was the MVP for his class. He attended William Penn Charter for high school. He and his Waldron Mercy teammates and classmates have lifelong relationships as they reflect on the Waldron Mercy spirit of teamwork and support each other in their now college experiences. KJ now attends Villanova University and is an honor student in the school of business. He is on the football team and has recently won co-champions in their division.

Lastly, there is our Julian, our proud seventh grader. Julian was ready to come to Waldron Mercy in kindergarten, where he got a great foundation. Last year, the JV football and basketball teams, of which Julian was a part, won the Catholic Academy League championships.

We have enjoyed the music program immensely. The spring theatre always has state-of-the-art productions, particularly for elementary and middle school-aged children. The choirs and chorale always uplift the soul during the Christmas season. We are ever so grateful to those that have shaped our children’s lives. We have enjoyed our Waldron Mercy Academy journey, and it’s not over yet!
