Second Step Program

The Second Step Program is taught in the classrooms to reduce impulsive and aggressive behavior in children and to increase their social skills. Children learn empathy, impulse control, problem-solving and anger-management skills. Second Step can give your children the tools they need to problem solve and get along better with others. Being good at these things is one of the keys to being successful in life.
Each classroom teacher presents the material a little differently. Some teachers may not have started presenting the curriculum, while others may already be nearly finished.
Parents and children can practice and reinforce the new skills at home. By supporting what your child is learning in the classroom, together we can help our children to feel safe and to know how to deal with every day stresses.
All parents hope to protect and shelter their children, but this isn’t always easy. Even if our children are not involved with violent or dangerous activities they may be exposed to other children who are. We also want our children to do well socially as this will be important for success in all areas of their lives. Second Step will be an integral part of ensuring that your child will have the “emotional intelligence” to succeed.
