Our first through eighth grade challenging curriculum uses the Pennsylvania standards as a framework for learning. These standards are greatly enriched by the thematic and integrated planning by our teachers. We want our students to make connections between literature, historical events, scientific process, and mathematical reasoning. We teach them to question, reason, debate, research and problem solve.
Our science program is designed to engage students in the “hands-on” exploration of scientific principles investigating topics in Earth, Life, and Physical science.
There are many opportunities to integrate technology into our studies. From smartboards to laptops, to hand-helds—our students learn to use these tools as they would pencil and paper.
To add to the academic experience, students utilize The Albert T. Perry Memorial Library, a multimedia library, state-of-the-art technology center and sunny fine arts studio.
After a nine-month construction project, the attic at Waldron Mercy Academy, which was used for storage when the school was an all-boys boarding school, was transformed into the Perry Library. It’s a wonderful space where students can study, create and imagine.
Our Waldron Mercy students are recognized for academic accomplishments. Many are recognized by Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth for superior performance on standardized tests. Many of our eighth graders receive scholarships to private high schools. Our alumni are also accepted into impressive colleges and universities.
You’ll recognize a WMA student for their joy in learning, their confidence, hospitality and commitment to serving others. We are proud of our students and of our school!
